Scrapes
so old you can’t feel old
blood tingles eyes stare
below you the grassy plain
where sea waters will
one day surge and run
distant that future
here and now flint
flaky sharp-edged
digs into flesh and ribs
arrowheads designed
to disable and kill
spear tips elemental
killers like these clouds
this wind eternal this rain
Thanks, Jane. Last time we visited Hengistbury Head, Becky and I lay in he scrapes the reindeer people made, 14,000 years ago. Incredible feeling. It is such a beautiful part of Olde England. An so old … same with Maiden Castle, though that is much younger. Clare’s mum had a bronze age burial mound in her back garden!
