We got an incredible one inch of rain in ten minutes last Friday evening. I got some wonderful photos and no, that is not my hand shaking.

In fact the weather in June has been most strange. The end of May saw four consecutive days at 32 C / 90 F. This was followed by four consecutive nights of frost. And then this devastating rainstorm on Friday evening.

Los Días de Noé / the days of Noah, as they say in Spanish. But our one inch of rain fell in just ten minutes and the wind was horrendous. Similar storms are called chubascos and I’ve also heard tromba.

Whatever: it was cold, dark, windy, and wet and 13,000 homes went without power.

Amazing! Very interesting.

It really was amazing. I have some videos of the storm, short clips. And wow! It was brutal. Some people didn’t get their power back until yesterday afternoon.

Wow very well done on capturing all if that drama. I’m so sorry to hear about those who were cut off and hope things settle for them now that power’s restored.

Power was restored everywhere by Sunday evening. Two long nights, though, Friday and Saturday. We had it bad here, but it was worse in the downtown and some areas really had trees uprooted and power lines cleaned out. We have been having some freak weather.

How awful for you all. It sounds terrible. It’s bad enough coping with the pandemic without these extra afflictions. I wish you all well as you begin the recovery

We aren’t too badly off: NB is the cleanest province in Canada. The St. John river rose again this year and we feared another flood following two years of sensational water rise. However, the rain that was threatened went elsewhere, thankfully, which meant people down river were safe and didn’t have to evacuate in the middle of the pandemic.
