     I spent several months teaching and studying in Oaxaca, Mexico and learned a great deal when I was there from some very wonderful people. Given the ingenuity of the drug trade (tunnels into the USA) and the determination of southerners (not just Mexicans) to travel north in search of a better, safer life, I don’t think a bigger, better wall is the answer. Nor do I think that mass deportation will solve what this Administration seem to see as a serious problem (the presence of immigrants). As an immigrant to Canada myself, how could I think otherwise? My studies of history (Spain, in particular) show that mass deportation rarely works and often has a damaging effect on the country that deports.
