Absence
empty now the house
clean the floors
where she played
polished the tables
grubby no more
where small five
fingered paws
pattered and splattered
food wanted and unwanted
empty the bathroom
the tub where she bathed
dry the towels
full the toothpaste tubes
she squeezed in ecstasy
where now her footprints
her cries of joy and sorrow
the secret language she spoke
that we never understood
empty too my heart
where she nested
and still nests
a wild bird flown
yet still possessed
within my empty hands
“Empty too my heart, where she nested……
Beautiful n sad memories.

Thanks, Aruna. She did indeed nest in my heart, for a little while physically, and now as a memory. Not so sad, really: the warmth is still there.

Thanks, Mia. We just spoke by phone … it was long silences and brief communications … oh those days when we are two and counting … well, just learning to count.

Thanks, Ms. Meghan. The house is suddenly very empty and quiet … but the noise was so much fun. I also have a new name (I think). My knee misses being climbed upon!

Pretty noisy here right now … just packing and heading for the airport. Silence will follow. More to come n this theme, I suspect. So glad you liked it. Thanks for commenting.

I am sorry. I hope it gets easier soon.

We have called and will soon Skype. So there are easier paths to follow than pure absence. Thank you for thinking of us. I slept 11 hours last night … so there are some compensations!
