I am
I am not worthy
to be called her sun,
and yet her world
revolves around me.
She spins in my space
and short-circuits
her own life to make
mine more livable.
I’d like to say ‘joyous,’
but tears are in all things
and the best I can offer
is a salt water world,
sullied and silent,
filled with inadequacy
and drowned in fears.
First of all condolences on your namesake. I always had a soft spot for Roger, a perfectly charming and urbane man. It is a little grim but beautiful nevertheless this poem. I didn’t realise you were an only child, I am also a member of this club. We do look at the world from a different angle.

Sunt rerum lachrimae: Meg introduced me to the world of onlies … I had never before thought of u as a sort of pre-condition. And yes, we do see things very differently …

A pre-condition, that sounds rather bleak Roger.

As for Roger George Moore (89): it was a strange feeling, seeing that name floating across the TV screen all day long. Clare said it affected me, but I wasn’t aware of it.

I would say.

Beautiful! I see why Clare thought it grim, but it is a quite a tribute.

Hi Tanya: good to see you here. I am glad you like it. Don’t know where that one came from: it just flowed.

It has been a busy week. I’m still trying to get caught up!

Me too. Two tough weeks, and a difficult long weekend to come. The weekend will be fun, though.

What a touching tribute to your loving partner! ‘A salt water world’ – love that line.

Thanks, Meg. Clare thought it was ‘grim’! I wrote it yesterday when I was in a ‘downside’ mood. We think it was the passing of the other Roger Moore and seeing my name all over the screen all day!

I know! I didn’t mention for that very reason… it must have been unsettling. Hope you are on the upside today!

Yup: upside today and yesterday was but a passing cloud … it happens. Luckily I didn’t rain on anyone’s party.

I have those days myself. And when I do I prefer to be alone. My only child kicks in!

A very interesting observation I too am best left on my own. It’s the ‘only child’ syndrome!
